FRUITS

Fruit

Bright and aromatic peaches and nectarines are a seasonal highlight, ranging from $7-$16 per kilo. Choose fruit that's richly coloured and fragrant for the best flavour. Ripen at room temperature for optimal sweetness, then enjoy fresh. Try this delicious pairing of char-grilled nectarines with rocket and ham on toast—a perfect treat for weekend entertaining.

Sweet, slightly tangy apricots have arrived and will be at their peak from November through January. To ripen unripe apricots, leave them in a paper bag at room temperature for a day or two. Enjoy them fresh as a healthy snack or make a batch delicious apricot dessert. Prices are between $8-$20 per kilo.

Australian cherries are now in season, bringing their luxurious look and juicy sweetness to your table. Early varieties are delicately flavoured and softer, making them ideal for snacking or cooking. A 500g punnet costs $8- $15, a kilo costs $12- $50, and two-kilo boxes cost $30-$60.

Premium strawberries with a good shelf-life cost $3-$5 per punnet. For cooking or pureeing, opt for the budget-friendly punnets, which cost $1.50-$2.50. Make a batch of microwave strawberry jam to capture that fresh, sweet flavour.

Mango season is in full swing, with Kensington Pride, Calypso, and R2E2 varieties available from $1.50-$4 each. Sliced mangoes pair beautifully with prawns for a Thai-inspired salad or can be blended into a refreshing mango and blueberry smoothie. If mangoes are your favourite, look for tray specials at your local greengrocer, starting at $10-$15 for a small tray and $18-$35 for large trays, depending on variety and size.

A healthy delight, raspberries are available at $3-$6 per punnet. With its vibrant red colour and impressive vitamin C content, raspberries are a perfect addition to chocolate desserts or as a nutritious snack. Look for multi-buy specials at your local greengrocer to save more.

Tropical-tasting papaya, rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, and beta carotene, is an easy way to add sweetness to meals. Prices range from $3-$6 per kilo. Ripen at room temperature, then store in the fridge and use within two days for the best flavour.

VEGETABLES

Vegetables

Tender, juicy Lebanese cucumbers, priced at $2.50- $4 per kilo, are great for salads and snacks.

A spring favourite, asparagus, costs from $1.50 to $2.50 per bunch. Look for spears with tightly closed tips for maximum freshness. In salads, asparagus pairs wonderfully with tomatoes and halloumi.

Mild but versatile, zucchinis are a great addition to everything from pasta to stir-fries. Try our honey, sesame, zucchini, mushroom & chicken skewers. This week, zucchinis are h per kilo.

Bok choy, bok choy, choy sum, and gai lan are all in season and ideal for quick stir-fries. They are fresh, crisp, and affordable, priced between $1.50 and $3 per bunch.

South Australian glass-house-grown eggplants are excellent quality and value at $4-$7 a kilo.

Classic iceberg lettuce is a salad favourite and top value at $1.50-$3 each.

Crisp and sweet snow peas add a lovely freshness to stir-fries and salads. Try pairing with garlic and chilli prawns for a flavourful dish. Snow peas are available for $10-$12 per kilo.

Jumbo flat mushrooms are perfect for the BBQ and rich in B vitamins and vitamin D. Brush with olive oil, add a sprinkle of garlic or chilli, and cook until juicy for a hearty meat alternative. Mushrooms are $10-$14 per kilo.

Add colour and peppery bite to your spring salads with radishes, available from $2-$3 per bunch. Try French radishes or mixed-coloured bunches for a bit of variety, priced at $3-$4.

Machine-harvested green beans are a budget-friendly option at $4-$5 per kilo, while handpicked beans offer premium quality at $14-$20 per kilo. Try them boiled with feta and crispy pancetta for a gourmet side dish.

Broccoli is nutritious and easy to cook. It costs $4-$6 per kilo. Enjoy it raw, blanched, or added to pasta or stir-fries for a nutritious boost.

Nutritious kale is packed with vitamins C, E, and K and is a good source of iron and calcium. For a quick, healthy side, sauté it with olive oil, garlic, and a sprinkle of chilli. Kale costs $2-$3 per bunch.

FLOWERS

FlowersTo keep your fresh flowers looking vibrant for longer, trim the stems, place them in tepid water with a floral preservative, and keep the vase away from your fruit bowl, as fruit releases ethylene gas that can shorten flower life. This week look out for excellent value blooms like delphinium, lisianthus, peonies, sunflowers, fragrant mock orange, crab claws, daisy’s, billy buttons, waratah, king protea, poppy pods, hydrangeas, beehive ginger, smoke bush, oriental lilies, Canterbury bells, local roses, kangaroo paw, flannel flower, alstroemeria, iris, pincushions, gerbera, and gladioli.
